Bat Carcass Searches

Trust in us. Our highly-trained sniffer dogs make the "needle-in-a-haystack" task of finding bat carcasses simple.

Our dogs

All of our dogs have gone through a rigorous course of training in bat detection by professional search dog trainers (ex police & prison service).

They undergo regular continuation training throughout the year to ensure our high standard of bat detection is maintained.

In 'blind' trials last year our dogs found at least 95% of 'dummy' bat carcasses.

Our methods

Searches are normally required of a 50m radius of the turbine. Our dog/handler teams will work systematically to cover the full extent of this area.

Difficult terrains can be covered by the dogs where humans alone would struggle to search.

Our dogs can be worked on a long line if necessary so do not pose a problem where livestock or vehicles are on site.

Meaningful results

As site conditions vary considerably, we conduct integrated observer efficiency and predator removal trials at all sites we visit.

The number of 'real' bat casualties found is then adjusted using the results of the observer efficiency and predator removal trials to give a more accurate estimate of the true number of casualties at a site or greater confidence in a nil result

Our experience

Having undertaken tens of thousands of bat carcass searches for large energy companies, wind farm operators and ecological consultancies since 2011, our experience is unparalleled in the UK.
